Montgomery County Under Winter Storm Warning
Travel may be treacherous Sunday night, the National Weather Service said.
Montgomery County is under a winter storm warning Sunday through Monday, according to the National Weather Service.
A winter storm warning means that significant amounts of snow, sleet and freezing rain will fall, impacting travel, the weather service said.
One to three inches of snow and sleet are expected, with one quarter-inch of ice accumulation possible, according to the National Weather Service. The most ice will accumulate Sunday night, the weather service said.
The winter storm warning is in effect from 8 a.m. Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday for Montgomery, Howard, northern Baltimore and Carroll counties in addition to parts of Virginia.
Downed tree branches, icy roads and power outages were likely, according to the National Weather Service.
"Some outages may be extended if hazardous road conditions delay our crews’ ability to travel and begin restoration work," Carol Dodson, vice president of BGE, said.
Montgomery County will begin seeing snow and sleet Sunday morning, before the precipitation changes to freezing rain in the afternoon, the forecast said. Freezing rain will continue through Sunday evening and turn into regular rain Monday morning.
Temperatures will stay in the low 30s Sunday, according to the forecast.
