Here are some other things to know for Jan. 22, according to the county's public information office:
  • MCPS: Classes in Montgomery County's public schools are closed.
  • Government: Montgomery County government offices will be open, with "liberal leave" for non-essential county employees. All essential county employees are expected to report to duty as scheduled. Employees who choose not to report for work must notify their supervisors.
  • Buses: Ride On buses will follow a weekday schedule, but passengers are cautioned to expect major delays and detours due to icy and hazardous driving conditions. For updates on schedules and routes, visit rideonbus.com.
  • Activities: All community use activities in schools are canceled today. Childcare in schools will be provided, but will begin three hours late.
  • Recreation: All regularly scheduled recreation programs and activities are canceled. Community recreation centers and aquatic facilities open at 11 a.m. However, patrons are advised to call facilities before visiting. Check montgomerycountymd.gov/rec for updates.
  • Senior centers: Senior centers are closed on Wednesday.

  • Snow removal: For snow removal and other weather-related information, visit montgomerycountymd.gov/snow.
  • County trash and recycling: Normal trash collection resumes on Wednesday. Trash collection services slid by one day this week due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday. Residents who normally receive county-provided recycling or trash pick-up on Tuesdays will have trash and recycling collections on Wednesday. Some trucks may be a little later than normal due to snowy streets.
