The National Weather Service issued a winter storm watch for Montgomery County.
The watch will last from Sunday morning to Monday morning. "Heavy snow and ice is expected," according to the National Weather Service.
"Residents should begin winter storm preparations which should consider the potential of significant snow accumulations within the next 48 hours. Please remain alert for the issuance of additional warnings," the service added.
A winter storm watch is issued when there is the potential for significant snowfall and hazardous winter weather within 48 hours.
The Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang reported on Friday that the "snow accumulation forecast is tricky. In this kind of event, accumulations often end up lower than suggested by the models. They should mostly be in the 1 to 2 inch range with amounts probably being closer to 1 inch around the city and up to 2 inches west and northwest of the beltway."
