Jazz Artist Loide at the Mansion at Strathmore

Washington, D.C. based jazz vocalist Loide (pronounced Loy-deh) will perform at the Strathmore mansion. As a contemporary jazz artist, Loide is known for her unique samba-infused eclectic sound, a product of her diverse background with roots in Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, France and California.

For more than 20 years, Loide has honed her craft with extensive training as a classical vocalist, performing in national competitions, musicals, and chorales. Loide has spent the last decade fine tuning her art in some of the nation's hippest jazz clubs and prestigious venues. Recently, Loide has opened for the legendary Hugh Masekela and Oliver Mtukudzi, and performed at a Miriam Makeba tribute in New York on the same stage as Paul Simon and his original Graceland band. Locally she has been invited to perform at the DC Jazz Festival, the National Cherry Blossom Festival, National Immigration Forum, Keepers of the American Dream awards gala and frequently performs at venues like Blues Alley and Bohemian Caverns.

She released her first album self-titled "Loide, Live at Bohemian Caverns" in 2009 and most recently she was the featured artist for a live special on The Africa Channel. At present Loide is working on a full length album of original music co-written with composer and producer, Mongezi “Chris” Ntaka, the original guitarist of the late South African reggae vocalist, Luke Dube.
