The Laramie Project

B-CC High School students will perform "The Laramie Project" on March 11, 12, and 18 at 7:30 p.m. and on March 19 at 2:00 p.m., a three-act play about the reaction to the 1998 murder of University of Wyoming gay student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming.

"The Laramie Project," a play by Moisés Kaufman and members of the

Tectonic Theater Project, draws on hundreds of interviews conducted by the theatre company with inhabitants of the town, company members' own journal
entries and published news reports. It is divided into three acts, and
between 14 actors will portray more than seventy characters in
a series of short scenes. The first act focuses on setting the scene
and the murder. The second act focuses on the media invasion of
Laramie as well as Matthew's condition in the hospital. The final act
focuses on the trial of the accused and its aftermath. The play is not
a reenactment of the murder, and Matthew Shepard never appears as a
character in the play.

“Though this play was written and performed over ten years ago, its message is just as important and relevant today. Though our production won’t change the world, we know that we’ll at least be able to make our community a slightly more understanding and tolerant place,” says Director Aaron Taylor of the production.

Seating will be on-stage and therefore limited. Tickets will be $10 and will be available for sale in advance online at www.bcctheater.com  or at the door.  All seating will be general admission.
