Second Annual Bake Bethesda A Pie Contest Kicks Off Sept. 4

The second annual Bake Bethesda a Pie contest, organized by the is slated for Sunday, Sept. 4.
The contest pits amateur bakers from across the Washington, D.C. region against each other to compete for the votes of a panel of local foodie judges.

More than 200 gathered for the contest when it launched last year to watch as more than 50 pies were taste-tested. The grand prize went to Cathy Barrow of Washington, D.C. for her sour cherry pie. This year, bakers in adult and child divisions will compete in sweet and savory categories.
We are proud to announce that our very own Bethesda’s Best Bites columnist, will be among the panel of judges this year. Other judges include the Washington Post’s deputy food editor Bonnie Benwick and Joseph Poupon of Patisserie Poupon.

The contest is set for 11a.m. Sept. 4 at the Bethesda Central Farm Market, held along Elm Street between Wisconsin and Woodmont Avenues. The deadline to enter the contest is Aug. 31. A $5 entry fee will benefit the Manna Food Center.
