Youth Essayists Honored

Winners of the Bethesda Youth Writing Contest win prizes and the opportunity to see their work in print.

Out of 450 entrants, 10 talented student winners of the Bethesda Youth Writing Contest were honored at an awards ceremony at the Bethesda Literary Festival this month.

The students, in grades K-8, wrote essays on the topic, “A Beautiful Place.” The entries were judged based on creativity, composition, grammar and spelling. The contest was organized by the and sponsored by Bethesda Magazine.

Patch chatted recently with one of the winners, a Kensington Parkwood Elementary fifth grader who wrote about her experience visiting the Eiffel tower. Other topics ranged from the Lincoln Memorial to a snowy backyard to the beach.

The winners received a certificate of achievement, prizes and the opportunity to see their work in print in the July/August edition of Bethesda Magazine. Their teachers were also recognized at the April 16 ceremony.
