Bethesda Cosmetic Dentist Addresses and Corrects Patient's 'Gummy Smile'

Dr. Gerald Marlin’s new dental patient worked in a position that involved working with and meeting many people. She was reluctant to smile at meetings with business associates because of her 'gummy smile,' which was a condition she had experienced for years. Whenever she smiled, a significant portion of her gum line above her teeth showed. Her inability to demonstrate a warm and friendly smile resulted in some embarrassing moments for her, and she shared that she rarely smiled during business meetings, at lunch with colleagues and at other social occasions. Her manager had even noted on a recent performance review that her unfriendly demeanor was affecting her interactions with company clients.

This patient attributed her lack of self-confidence to her gummy smile, and contacted Dr. Marlin’s office and made an appointment for an initial consultation to see what cosmetic dental treatment options could help her condition.

Dr. Marlin examined her teeth and the x-rays, and determined that her teeth were unevenly aligned, thus causing more of her gum line to be revealed when she smiled. After the initial smile analysis, Dr. Marlin and his patient agreed on the steps to take to help her achieve her goal of a warm, friendly smile.

She was very pleased with the outcome, see attached before/after smile photos, and her beautiful smile increased her self-confidence and she overcame her reluctance to smile while in the company of others.

During a follow up appointment several weeks later, she shared that her co-workers noticed and commented that she was smiling more often. The result from this cosmetic dental treatment plan helped her improve her self-confidence, and removed her hesitation to smile in personal and professional situations.

Her only disappointment was that she hadn't come to see Dr. Marlin to get her gummy smile corrected years earlier.

This Prosthetic Dentistry of Washington, DC patient case study shares an example of real patients from Bethesda and Chevy Chase who are looking for a new and improved smile. Dr. Marlin's cosmetic and dental implant treatments can deliver outstanding results that will surpass your expectations.
