Bold Bite Aims to Open at Old Ben & Jerry’s Spot by Week's End

Owner says 'everything's ready to go' pending final round of inspections.

the highly-anticipated make-your-own gourmet hot dog place in the Woodmont Triangle, is eyeing a grand opening by the end of next week, according to Alonso Roche, who will operate the new eatery with his brother Alvero.

“We’re in our final round of inspections which we think will be completed sometime within the next week,” Roche told Patch last week. “I’d venture to say right now we are looking at the end of next week” for the opening, he added.

“Everything’s in there,” Roche said in a telephone interview.  “The place is looking great.  The tables are in…all the counters are in…All we need is a little cosmetic work here and there.”

Roche also said that Bold Bite received approval for a liquor license following a county hearing on the application May 19 in Rockville.  The owners plan to serve beer and wine.

The restaurant, at the site of the former Ben & Jerry’s ice cream parlor at 4901 Fairmont Avenue., represents something of a new approach on the ever-widening Bethesda dining scene.

Bold Bite has created considerable buzz ahead of its opening thanks to what looks like an innovative concept and the Roches' formidable background.

The two Venezuelan brothers developed the concept from their days as kids on the streets of Caracas where the most popular street foods were hot dogs and sausages with a variety of toppings and sauces,  served up on a soft roll.

Alonso Roche is a graduate of the prestigious L’Academie de Cuisine and has worked here in Bethesda as a cook at both Persimmon and Willow.

The hot dog spot will be kid- and family-friendly. Customers will be able with the ingredients to do so on the counters.

There’s also a Facebook page for Bold Bite with a recent picture of the two brothers from Venezuela getting set to bring hot dogs to the Triangle…big time.
