Coca-Cola Acquisition Hasn't Changed Healthy Tea's Focus on Natural Ingredients

Honest Tea's acquisition by Coca-Cola hasn't changed the business' focus on natural, organic ingredients.

Honest Tea—co-founded by Bethesdan Seth Goldman in 1998—rolled out a new video spot on Monday, focusing on the tea's healthy, natural ingredients.

"The new ad is part of the 'Refreshingly Honest' campaign that includes outdoor and in-store advertising. The video introduces the ingredients in a style that echoes the classic rhyme 'This is the House that Jack Built,' " according to a news release.

In 2011, the homegrown, socially conscious company that sold 100 million bottles in 2010 was acquired by Coca-Cola, which had purchased 40 percent of the company in 2008, Bethesda-Chevy Chase Patch reported.

Goldman told Patch back then that the buy-out wouldn't change the company's products or values.

"Our organic ingredients are beautiful, simple and delicious," said Goldman, who will be the featured speaker at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School's graduation at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Daughters of the American Revolution's Constitution Hall.

"We want to share our story in a way that is transparent and communicates what our drinks and our brand are about," Goldman said.

The new video spot started appearing on Men’s Health and Women’s Health websites—as well as on other sites catering toward a healthy lifestyle—on Monday, according to the news release.
