Foodie News: Just Cakes Leaving Bethesda, Apizza Coming to Silver Spring

The wait for an authentic taste of Connecticut pizza in Montgomery County will continue for a few more weeks, Silver Spring Patch reported.

Joel Mehr, one of three owners of Pete's New Haven Style Apizza, said he's now shooting for a June 1 opening for his company's fourth location. The Silver Spring location, near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Wayne Avenue, will feature the same menu offerings as the company's current locations in Columbia Heights, Friendship Heights and Clarendon, VA.

Three sides:

Burrito fans as well as basketball fans have a reason to get "mad" this month. Cal-mex chain California Tortilla has launched an "Elito 8" competition to determine the next limited-time menu offering, Bethesda Patch reported.

Competing for a coveted limited-time space on the CalTort menu are street tacos, a pulled pork barbecue burrito, Korean barbecue tacos, Thai chicken burritos, Philly cheesesteak burritos, a Mexican meatloaf bowl, a teriyaki burrito and a Bangkok shrimp bowl. The long-vacant 44 Sports Bar and Grille location in the Kentlands has a new long-term tenant: Largent's Bar and Grille, which is slated for an August opening, Gaithersburg Patch reported.

The Cabin John Shopping Center & Mall in Potomac is getting three new restaurants: Attman's Delicatessen, Benny's Bar & Grill and Gregorio's Trattoria (which replaces Umberto's). All three are independently owned and operated and are on track to open this spring and summer, Potomac Patch reported.

Dessert:

Bethesda-area favorite Just Cakes closed its Rugby Avenue storefront on Sunday, March 17. The shop will continue selling its baked goods online, Bethesda Patch reported.
