Latin Fusion Restaurant, The Parva, Opens in Woodmont Triangle

Filling the space previously occupied by Indian restaurant Angeethi, Colombian brothers introduce new flavors to Bethesda.

Inspired by the “Nuevo Latin Flavor” in Miami, FL, brothers Juan Carlos and Edwin Balcazar opened their new restaurant, The Parva, July 9 on Woodmont Avenue. The restaurant fills the former Angeethi location which closed in April.

“Because Bethesda has become wildly popular for having many different cuisine restaurants, we thought our new concept would contribute to such an amazing diversity,” Juan Carlos said. “We are proud of our creation.”

The restaurant will serve mid-priced Latin American dishes that stem from Colombia, Peru and Argentina including ceviche, horneaditas and la paisa. The kitchen, led by chef Andres Garcia, will use Asian spices and few greases or oils.

“Honoring the exotic fruits and ingredients that enrich the Latin American cuisine, we created a fusion of different techniques and condiments of the world,” Garcia said. “The objective is to achieve a diverse composition of tastes, aromas, and well-balanced colors.”

The brothers, who, like Garcia, are from Colombia, named the restaurant after a word from their native country meaning “the best of the best.” While they expect competition from local restaurants like Divino Lounge and Guapos, Juan Carlos said he is confident The Parva will live up to the meaning of its name.

“We are family oriented operators who care about our customer’s satisfaction instead of restaurant chains that look for their own benefit,” he said. “We do expect that the restaurant will do well.”

The Parva is located at 7904 Woodmont Ave., Bethesda, MD.
