New Exercise Studio Pure Barre Coming to Hampden Lane

There's a "coming soon" sign in the window of the former Bundles of Cookies shop.

"Coming soon" signs for a Pure Barre exercise studio are in the windows of the former Bundles of Cookies shop at 4930 Hampden Ln., Bethesda.

Pure Barre is an exercise studio chain with dozens of locations across the country offering 55-minute classes using ballet barres. Its website advertises that "[in] just 55 minutes you will achieve a full-body workout concentrating on the areas women struggle with the most: hips, thighs, seat, abdominals and arms."

"The Pure Barre technique is low-impact, protecting your joints by avoiding any bouncing or jumping. Each strength section of the workout is followed by a stretching section in order to create long, lean muscles without bulk. The technique works to defy gravity by tapering everything in and lifting it up," the website continues.

Near Bethesda, there are Pure Barre locations at DC's Dupont Circle and in McLean, VA. While the Bethesda location already is listed on the studio's website with an address and phone number (301-642-2864), the voice mailbox for that phone number was not yet set up as of Tuesday afternoon, Patch discovered.

Will you try the new barre classes when they begin? If you've tried the studio's classes elsewhere in the country, have you found them to provide a good workout, in your opinion? Tell us in the comments.
