Report: Geico, Marriott Are MD's Most Famous Companies

A U.S. map with corporate logos in place of states shows big business prominence.

Maryland is known as the Old Line State, as a place for crabs and as one of the wealthiest states in the nation. But what companies are associated with the state? According to mapping project "Maps on the Web," it’s also known as the home of insurance and hotel giants.

Geico, headquartered in Chevy Chase, and Marriott, headquartered in Bethesda, were the big businesses of choice in Maryland for creators of the United States map. To the south, Virginia was most known for being home to AOL (in Dulles) and Northrop Grumman (in Falls Church).

In other parts of the country, California was most closely associated with Apple, Oregon with Nike and Illinois with McDonald’s.

Check out the map for yourself. Do you think Geico and Marriott are the most famous corporate headquarters in Maryland?
