'Sugar & Ice' Delays Opening

The new candy shop's opening was delayed by only a few days.

Update (Tuesday, June 11, 2013): Sugar & Ice opened on Friday, June 7.

Original post (Thursday, June 6, 2013): When Patch stopped by Wisconsin Circle on Wednesday to check out the new Sugar & Ice candy shop, the storefront was still shut and dark.

Sugar & Ice, a modern twist on the classic candy shop, was to open on Sunday, owner Chris Bennett told Patch last week, when brightly colored "coming soon" signs were taped to the windows of the storefront, which is down the block from the Frosting bakery.

The business has been around for some time as a candy catering company, catering local events at places such as Neiman Marcus and Saks, as well as birthday parties, bar mitzvahs and other special occasions, Bennett told Patch.

Catering customers had been asking when the company would have a real storefront, so Bennett decided to open one. It made sense to open in Chevy Chase, because many of the business' customers are in the Chevy Chase area, she said.
