Sweets Now Sold at New Candy Shop 'Sugar & Ice'

Snow cones and gelato will be added to the sweets lineup very soon.

New candy shop Sugar & Ice opened last Friday in Chevy Chase, filling one of the long-vacant storefronts on Friendship Heights' Wisconsin Circle with bright color and sweet treats.

The opening was delayed by only a few days, owner Chris Bennett told Patch. But by Tuesday afternoon, many customers (some on their way to work) already had stopped in to check out the sweets selection.

Sugar & Ice offers a modern twist on the traditional candy shop, Bennett said. Taking inspiration from classic candy stores, and looking to create something fun for the neighborhood, she stocks classic candies, candy bars, gum balls, and more in the candy buffet, at which customers may fill up a bag of whatever candy they want for $10 a pound.

Coming soon: a chocolate bar and—just in time for summer—snow cones and gelato.

Bennett also stocks the shop's shelves with other sweet edibles—like classic Moon Pies and popcorn balls—and tea, as well as fun cupcake wrappers and gifts.

The shop has been around for some time as a candy catering company, catering local events at places such as Neiman Marcus and Saks, as well as birthday parties, bar mitzvahs and other special occasions, Bennett told Patch.

Catering customers were asking when the company would have a real storefront, so Bennett decided to open one. Since many of their customers are in the Chevy Chase area, it made sense to open in Chevy Chase, she said.

The shop's new space includes a private room for events, complete with a small kitchenette, and the entire shop may be rented out—email sugar.ice.dc@gmail.com for more information.

Sugar & Ice is located at 7 Wisconsin Circle, Chevy Chase, MD.
