Unlimited Time Off: Boon Or Bust?

The Washington Post reports on a Bethesda company that's telling employees to take as much vacation as they need.

A Bethesda company is in the news this week after announcing it will offer its employees--wait for it--unlimited time off.

Wedding Wire, a Web-based event planning company that employs 98, plans to make the shift Jan. 1, The Washington Post’s Capital Business recently reported.

And the Post’s Mike Rosenwald asked Tuesday, “Is this the best employer in Maryland?”

We’re not sure, but we’d like to know what you think. According to Wedding Wire, the policy will allow its employees more flexibility, as long as they meet goals and expectations. Employees will still need to request vacation time through their manager, a Wedding Wire human resources director told Capital Business.

“We just want you to do your job,” the HR director, Jennifer Harding, told Capital Business. “If you can do that, why limit the amount of vacation you can take?”

And Chris Chi, Wedding Wire associate director of sales, told the publication: “If you’ve met your sales goal by the middle of the month, I have no place as a manager to keep you from taking the rest of the month off.”
