Velovoom to Re-Open In A Few Weeks, Owner Says

The cycling studio will extend membership expiration dates to make up for lost time.

Residents were confused last month when Cordell Avenue’s new cycling studio, Velovoom, went , but co-owner Kelly Weinberg said the venue is soon to come back to life.

Weinberg, who described Velovoom as “a of a cycling studio,” said the owners had to halt the business temporarily to make some internal changes – including minor renovations and website enhancements – that weren’t complete before the initial opening. They plan to finish the project and reopen the studio within the next few weeks.

“It’s a new start-up business, and there are always kinks. If we’re going to reopen, especially after being closed for six to eight weeks, we have to come back perfect and strong,” she said, adding that the staff will work diligently toward improvement each day leading up to the reopen.

Velovoom informed the public about the closure via a March 8 post on its Facebook page, which explained that it was “putting the brakes on classes for now” as it worked on retooling the website and planned a grand opening celebration. The closure occurred less than two months after and has affected about 300 customers.

Weinberg said some of her clients have expressed confusion about the break: “People, I think, were disappointed because they didn’t know what happened. A lot of press said we were closed, and I think it upset people who purchased packages.”

To make up for lost time, the studio will honor all expired packages and memberships for the days it was closed. It will also add a complimentary credit to each client’s account redeemable for a free ride.

Weinberg resorted to Facebook as a means of reaching out to what she felt was the largest number of customers; because Velovoom’s website is under construction, she cannot access the full database of clients saved within it. “Major problems” on the site is one of the reasons for the temporary closure.

“Our clients don’t have access to our website right now, so we need to get that back up and running more effectively before we can reopen,” Weinberg said. The revamped site will also ease the reservation process for clients.
