Visions For Vacancies: Green Papaya

What would you like to see in the former Green Papaya space?

a popular Bethesda Row Vietnamese restaurant, has closed its doors, Bethesda Magazine's Table Talk blog reported Wednesday.

Bethesda Row management company Federal Realty confirmed the closure of the restaurant, located at 4922 Elm Street, to Bethesda Magazine. Thursday, the restaurant's sign had been removed and paper covered its windows.

Green Papaya was opened in 2000 by Michael and Elaine Phan and voted “Best Vietnamese” restaurant by Bethesda Magazine readers in 2010 and 2011, Table Talk reported.

The departure of Green Papaya leaves open a prime Bethesda Row retail spot, and in our new "Visions for Vacancies" feature, we're asking Patch readers what they'd like to see in vacant spaces around town.

Will you miss Green Papaya? What would you like to see fill the space? Tell us in the comments.

I'd love to see a good, moderately-priced French/American bistro.

Some people panned Green Papaya, but over the last few years we ate there regularly and had consistently good experiences. Very bummed that it closed. I'd love to see another Vietnamese or perhaps Thai restaurant there, perhaps even sushi.
