AFCEA Bethesda Contributes $25,000 to the House of Ruth

The Bethesda Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA Bethesda), a non-profit that promotes partnerships between government and industry, is proud to have made its first contribution to House of Ruth, a charity supported by this year’s ‘A Night for the Children Gala.’ On Tuesday, January 7, AFCEA Bethesda provided $25,000 in funding to the charity, which supports children and families faced with homelessness and abuse.

Domestic violence is a leading cause of homelessness and can have a tragic effect on young children. House of Ruth assists more than 1,000 homeless and abused children each year, launching 75 percent of residents to independent housing. The charity’s Kidspace program is a nationally accredited developmental center that prepares children under five years of age for educational success.

“The effects of homelessness and abuse increase children’s risk for health problems, academic challenges and other issues throughout their lives. House of Ruth is making exceptional progress to mitigate these risks through programs such as Kidspace,” said Lockheed Martin Information Systems & Global Solutions Civil President Stephanie C. Hill, the 2014 chair for the ‘A Night for the Children’ Gala. “House of Ruth depends on the generous donations of its sponsors to continue these efforts, and we encourage individuals and organizations, especially those in the contracting community, to extend their charitable giving to this worthy organization.”
