After Irene, Power Restored To Many Bethesda Homes, Schools

The number of power outages in Bethesda dropped dramatically Monday following

From over 4,000 outages reported at the storm’s height early Sunday morning, just under 700 remained Monday afternoon. Southwestern Bethesda, Glen Echo and Cabin John – initially the parts of Bethesda hardest hit with outages – were all but restored Monday, with 58 households still in the dark.

Most of the lingering outages were in the 20817 zip code, where Pepco reported about 440 still without power. was forced to delay opening for the school year Monday because of a lack of power. Monday morning, a Pepco damage assessment team was onsite at the school, as generators hummed at homes nearby.
