Cedar Lane Bridge To Re-Open To Traffic Friday

Bridge had been closed to traffic since June for a rehabilitation project.

The Cedar Lane Bridge, which has been closed to traffic due to a rehabilitation project, is set to re-open Friday – three weeks ahead of schedule.

The project is just one in a series of transportation improvements planned around the soon-to-be Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, which will see 2,500 new employees and nearly one million yearly visitors after the federally-mandated Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) transition.

The bridge has been closed to traffic since June 16 as crews worked to repair concrete beams and piers that were in poor condition. The bridge had been classified as “structurally deficient,” according to Montgomery County.

The rehabilitation project will also add a shared use hiker/biker path between Rock Creek Trail and Elmhirst Trail.

After the bridge re-opens, Ride On bus route 34 -- which was detoured during the rehabilitation project -- will will return to its normal route.
