Composite Sketch Released In Capital Crescent Trail Sex Assault Case

Detectives are asking anyone who may recognize the man pictured in the sketch to contact police.

Montgomery County police detectives have released a composite sketch of a suspect in an Oct. 21 sex assault on the Capital Crescent Trail.

Police said a 21-year-old woman was knocked unconscious, dragged into the woods and possibly sexually assaulted after jogging on the trail between MacArthur Boulevard and Massachusetts Avenue.

In releasing the sketch Friday, police described the suspect as a white male with a thin build and a pale complexion, about six feet tall, with short, brown hair.

Police said a white male was seen riding a bicycle in the area and may have information regarding the case. They also released a sketch of a bicycle similar to the one that was seen.

Police are asking anyone who may know the man pictured in the composite sketch or who is familiar with the bicycle or the bicycle rider to call the Montgomery County police non-emergency line at (301) 279-8000.

Anonymous tipsters may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477) or 240-773-TIPS (8477).  Anonymous tips can also be provided by texting “MCPD” plus the tip to 274637 (CRIMES).

Crime Solvers of Montgomery County is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information provided anonymously that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of the person responsible for the crime.

The Maryland-National Capital Park Police have stepped up patrols on the trail and have released safety tips for trail users following the assault.
