Demolition on a residential high-rise at 4900 Fairmont Avenue is expected to launch in January, according to Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center director Ken Hartman.
The structures set to come down at the project site include the buildings that formerly housed restaurants Foong Lin, Haandi and Sweet Basil.
a mainstay at the corner of Fairmont and Norfolk Avenues, closed this summer after 25 years in the Woodmont Triangle. Haandi is set to take over the former Uptown Deli space, Bethesda Magazine's Table Talk blog reported.
Owners of the other restaurants displaced by the project were seeking new locations, according to the reports.
The 17-story high-rise will have 236 rental units, 6500-square-feet of ground floor retail, and more than three levels of below grade parking.
