Details Announced For Jayna Murray 5K Walk/Run

Event will benefit memorial foundation for woman killed at Lululemon March 11.

Plans are being finalized for the Jayna Murray 5K Walk/Run, an event set for Sept. 18 in downtown Bethesda to honor the slain Lululemon employee.

Murray, 30, was stabbed and beaten to death at the Bethesda Avenue shop March 11. Her co-worker, Brittany Norwood, 29, has been in the crime.

The event is organized by the Jayna Murray Foundation, which supports scholarships for individuals interested in activities and programs that enriched Murray’s life. Murray was an avid runner, and proceeds from the race will benefit the memorial foundation.

“A natural athlete, she loved the outdoors,” reads a website featuring race details. “She was an avid rock-climber and hiker, often frequenting the local D.C. area trails. Jayna loved animals, dancing, and had a great passion for traveling.  But her greatest passion was for running. She participated in countless races in and outside of the D.C. area. Jayna lived life to the fullest and will always be remembered for her zest for life. The Jayna Murray Foundation was established in her memory to honor this tragic loss.  Her friends and family are committed to her passion, her love for running by establishing the Jayna Murray 5K Run/Walk.”

Murray’s family told Patch they hope the race will become an annual event in multiple cities.
