Driver, Bike Rider Dispute Leads to Assault on Battery Lane

A woman grabbed a man on a bike after a near-collision with the car she was riding in, according to police.

Tensions between bicyclists and drivers can sometimes ride high on Bethesda streets. But one recent disagreement escalated into an assault on a biker on Battery Lane, according to Montgomery County police.

A man was riding his bike on Battery Lane and Park Avenue around 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, according to a crime summary. The bike and a car nearly collided, according to Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Officer Janelle Smith.

The biker hit the car with his hand, and a verbal altercation began between the man and the three women who were riding in the car, Smith said.

One of the women in the car grabbed the man on the bike, according to Smith.

The crime was reported as a aggravated assault in the crime summary.

It wasn't clear whether any arrests had been made.
