Flash Flood Warning In Effect Through 7:30 P.M.

Officials urge residents not to drive through standing water.

Update, 5:17p.m.: A flash flood emergency situation is in effect in Western Montgomery County, according to Alert Montgomery.

At 4:15p.m., a line of storms was approaching that dropped three inches per hour of rainfall on Fairfax County and prompted numerous water rescues from vehicles there.

Rain is expected to flood streets with slow drainage and low-lying areas, according to Alert Montgomery. Officials are warning motorists to use caution on the roads and not to drive through standing water.

Original post, 4:08p.m.: A flash flood warning is in effect for western Montgomery County through 7:30 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

A flood warning also remains in effect for urban areas and small streams in the county until 8p.m.

At 3:20p.m., torrential rain was moving into the western portion of the county from Great Falls to Gaithersburg, according to NWS, with rainfall up to three inches per hour is expected.

Bethesda, Chevy Chase, Damascus, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Olney, Rockville, Ballenger Creek, Boyds, Frederick, New Market, Poolesville and Walkerville are among the areas that will continue to be affected by rain, according to NWS.

Flash flooding is expected.

Remember not to drive through standing water on the roadway. In Potomac Thursday afternoon, by flood waters, and portions of Bradley Boulevard near River Road remain closed due to high water.
