Gaithersburg Patch: Magruder's Closing All Locations

All four of the chain's locations, including in Rockville and Gaithersburg, will be sold, Gaithersburg Patch reports.

A familiar name in the Montgomery County supermarket scene is selling all four of its stores, Gaithersburg Patch reports.

Rockville-based supermarket chain Magruder's has been a Washington institution for more than 130 years, according to Rockville Patch.

The two Montgomery County stores, in Rockville and Gaithersburg, were seeing a run on items discounted by 50 percent Wednesday.

"We are currently in negotiations to sell the remaining four locations to a group who wishes to purchase the individual stores and reopen them as quickly as possible and we are working diligently with all parties involved," Magruder's Vice President Gary Bortnick wrote in a letter.
