Huguely Trial: First Responders Testify

A Charlottesville jury saw pictures and heard testimony from the scene of Yeardley Love's 2010 death.

In the second day of testimony in the murder trial of George Huguely V, rescuers painted a grim picture of what became a crime scene early on May 3, 2010.

The Baltimore Sun reports the 911 call to Cockeysville native Yeardley Love's Charlottesville, VA apartment came in as possible alcohol poisoning. But when rescuers arrived, they found Love beaten, bruised, bloodied and not breathing. Paramedics spent the next half-hour trying to revive her, to no avail.

The 24-year-old Huguely, a Chevy Chase native, is charged with murdering Love, 22, his ex-girlfriend. The trial began Monday in Charlottesville Circuit Court, and is expected to last two weeks.

The defense, the Sun reports, argues the bruises seen in pictures from the crime scene and autopsy, were actually caused by rescuers performing chest compressions and other attempts to save Love's life.

Love and Huguely were both lacrosse players at the University of Virginia. In opening statements, attorneys . Testimony on Thursday afternoon included friends and teammates of the couple.

WJZ-TV reports that one University of North Carolina lacrosse player took the stand and admitted that Love had an affair with him. He said Huguely reacted by putting her in a chokehold. The player heard the fight and broke it up. Prosecutors said Huguely later wrote Love an email saying he "should have killed" her.

Testimony continues Friday.
