Ice and Sleet Coats Bethesda

The morning commute was a slippery one.

Ice and sleet coated Bethesda Monday evening and early Tuesday morning, making for a slippery morning commute for both drivers and pedestrians. Business owners were kept busy this morning clearing the sidewalks in front of their shops and the helped out by clearing curb cuts and some common areas like Veteran's Park and the Capital Crescent Trail tunnel. Other pedestrian pathways -- like a trail through Battery Lane Urban Park,  administered by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission -- resembled ice skating rinks rather than walkways.

“Compared to last year, it’s not so bad,” said Stephanie Coppula, a spokeswoman for the Bethesda Urban Partnership. “We were prepared for it, we were expecting it – when knew when it was coming.”

The photos below were taken in Bethesda's Woodmont Triangle.
