Ken Venturi Recalls 1964 Open Win At Congressional In USGA Video

In a historic moment at the Bethesda course, Venturi famously battled sweltering temperatures for the win.

In 1964 Ken Venturi survived sweltering heat to win the U.S. Open at It was Venturi's first win in four years and his only major championship win. Soon after the tournament Venturi was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome. He retired from golf in 1967 and enjoyed a 35-year career as an announcer.

The United States Golf Association recently released a video of Venturi discussing his historic win at Congressional as another U.S. Open is hosted by the Bethesda club this week. The video is available via the U.S. Open’s website.
