Last Chance: Woodmont Closes Tonight

Bethesda drivers only have a few more hours to drive on Woodmont through to Wisconsin Avenue.

Enjoy it while you can, Bethesda drivers.

There's only a few hours left to drive the entire stretch of Woodmont Avenue south to Wisconsin.

A portion of the busy thoroughfare, between Bethesda Avenue and Miller Avenue, will for 20 months to allow for the construction of a public parking garage and two residential developments.

The closure was but was pushed back. If you were hoping for another delay, no such luck. The closure is officially scheduled for this evening, according to Ken Hartman, director of the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center.

The closure is sure to affect traffic on busy Bethesda Row, but the real test will come Monday during morning rush hour. Since much of Woodmont carries traffic from north to south, morning rush commuters may be impacted the most, Hartman told Patch last month.

There's good news for pedestrians and cyclists, however -- the Capital Crescent Trail will remain open during construction.
