Ledecky Among Olympians Honored By Obamas, Biden

Bethesda gold medalist Katie Ledecky, 15, was among the athletes to be honored Friday by President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

The White House event honored Olympic and Paralympic athletes, the Baltimore Sun reported.

The sophomore stunned the world as she swam to the gold in the women’s 800m freestyle at the Summer Olympics in London. With a finish in 8 minutes and 14.63 seconds, she broke a 23-year American record and just missed the world record of Britain's Rebecca Adlington, the Washington Post reported.

At the ceremony, Obama commented on Ledecky's young age, the Baltimore Sun reported. Ledecky was the youngest member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team.

"President Obama gave Katie a shout-out in his speech to Olympians at the White House this morning," read a post on Ledecky's Facebook page.

Getty Images captured an image of Biden laughing with Ledecky.

"Such an honor to meet the President, First Lady, and VP!" Ledecky tweeted Friday afternoon. "And to be mentioned in President's speech! Thanks @whitehouse!"
