Leggett Proposes Hiking Bethesda, Silver Spring Parking Fees

Public hearing set for April 24, the Washington Examiner reports.

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) wants to raise parking fees in Bethesda and Silver Spring, the Washington Examiner reports. The proposal also calls for charging parkers on Saturdays in Bethesda, Silver Spring and Wheaton, according to the Examiner.

In Bethesda, Leggett is proposing raising the rates at four-hour meters from 75 cents an hour to 85 cents an hour, though the rates for two-hour meters -- $1 an hour -- would not change.

The daily maximum at Garage 49 would be bumped from $12.25 to $13.35, a monthly parking sticker would jump from $140 to $160, and a daily parking permit would be upped from $11.25 to $12.75, the Examiner reports.

The proposal -- which also includes hiking RideOn fares -- was introduced Tuesday at the Montgomery County Council. A public hearing is set for April 24.
