Long-Term Parking Fees Rise In Downtown Bethesda Friday

Alcohol isn't the only thing you'll need to pay more for beginning July 1.

As Marylanders prepare to shell out more cash for alcohol as a new alcohol tax hike begins July 1, Bethesdans will also need to ready their wallets for parking fee hikes in the downtown.

Beginning Friday, long-term parking rates– rates charged for more than four hours of parking – will increase from 65 cents to 75 cents an hour beginning July 1. Short-term parking – four hours or less – will remain $1 an hour.

Monthly parking convenience stickers will also rise from $120 to $140.

The hikes were part of an initial by County Executive Isiah Leggett. Leggett’s proposal would have also charged parkers in downtown Bethesda lots and garages on Saturdays, but the parking fee hikes that passed the Montgomery County Council and take effect today don’t include Saturday charges.

The hikes ran into from some residents and Bethesda's business community.
