Metro: What You Need to Know This Weekend

Daylight Savings Time means we're not only losing an hour of sleep -- we're losing an hour of Metro service too.

Planning on catching the Red Line this weekend? Here’s a few things you should know.

Springing forward won’t just affect our watches and our sleep schedules – it will affect Metro service too. Daylight Savings Time begins at 2a.m. Sunday, March 13. But for those of us who are wrapping up our Saturday evening around that time, it means losing an hour of Metro service. At 2a.m., when the clocks spring forward to 3a.m., Metro will close.

Metro normally shuts down service at 3a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

At Union Station, Metro will temporarily close the entrance at Massachusetts Avenue N.E. at 8p.m. Sunday, March 13, and Sunday, March 20, due to rehabilitation work of the station manager’s kiosk in the mezzanine area. The entrance will re-open Monday, March 14 at 5a.m., and again Monday, March 21 at 5a.m. The First Street N.E. entrance will remain open.

If you hop over to the Orange Line, keep in mind that there will be no train service between the East Falls Church and West Falls Church stations due to scheduled track work. Metro will be running shuttle buses between the two stations from 10p.m. Friday, March 11 through closing Sunday, March 13.
