No Cameras In Courtroom For Huguely Sentencing

A Charlottesville judge on Wednesday denied a media request to film the upcoming sentencing hearing.

A Charlottesville judge has denied a media request to allow cameras in the courtroom for the August sentencing of Chevy Chase native George Huguely.

In February, Huguely was of second-degree murder in the May 2010 death of Cockeysville native Yeardley Love, his ex-girlfriend. both played lacrosse at the University of Virginia.

A hearing to review a request by NBC29 and the Daily Progress to film and photograph the sentencing went forward Wednesday afternoon in a Charlottesville courtroom. Judge Edward Hogshire denied the request, NBC29 reported.

The hearing was

On Aug. 22, the  court will hear a defense motion to and request a new trial. Huguely's defense is arguing that during the criminal trial, Commonwealth's Attorney Dave Chapman withheld information about a pending civil lawsuit to be brought by Love's family.

Huguely's sentencing is set for Aug. 30.
