Reports: Obama Awards Purple Hearts During Wednesday Visit to NavyMed

President visited the National Naval Medical Center this afternoon.

Update, 6:30p.m. The AP is reporting that President Obama awarded six Purple Hearts during a visit this afternoon to the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda.

Obama met with 22 patients and their families, along with medical center staff, according to the report. He stayed for more than an hour.

The visits are closed to the media and the servicemembers who were awarded were not identified. Twenty-one served in Afghanistan, according to the AP report, and the other served in Iraq.

Original Post, 9:30a.m.: It looks like President Obama will be visiting Bethesda this afternoon.

According to Obama's schedule, he's set to stop by the at 1:15p.m.

Politico is reporting he will meet with wounded soldiers and their families.

No word yet on whether traffic will be affected in the area.

The visit is closed to the press, according to a NavyMed spokeswoman.
