Pedestrian Struck in Bethesda Remains In Critical Condition

A 59-year-old man who was struck by car as he attempted to cross Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda Wednesday morning remains in critical condition at Suburban Hospital, according to hospital spokeswoman Ronna Borenstein-Levy.

Police said the man, William George Cole, was struck by a 2006 Honda Civic in the southbound lanes of Old Georgetown Road just north of Alta Vista Road around 9:37 a.m. Cole suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.

Meredith Daly, an employee at the nearby Children's Inn at the National Institutes of Health, said she drove by and saw a man lying in the street who appeared to be "completely unresponsive."

Police identified the driver of the Honda as Remy Jean Paul Bosselut, 52, of the 6000 block of Chatsworth Lane in Bethesda.

The incident is the most recent in a spate of pedestrian and bicyclist collisions in the county. Several weeks ago in Bethesda, a baby was struck while being walked in a stroller across Arlington Road. His father said it was "pure luck" the baby wasn't injured.
