Plans Detailed For Bethesda Row Seafood Restaurant

Takeout restaurant slated for former Cacao space.

Luke’s Lobster will be moving into the former Cacao space at Bethesda Row by late May or early June, Ben Conniff, a spokesman for the company, confirmed over the weekend.

News of the seafood restaurant's debut on Bethesda Lane was first reported by Bethesda Magazine.

Owner Luke Holden, 27, graduated from Georgetown University and grew up in Maine, Bethesda Magazine reported.

In a press release sent to Patch, Luke’s Lobster, which already has four shops in New York City and another in the Penn Quarter in downtown Washington, D.C., reported Bethesda friends of Holden's and customers of its downtown spot clamored for the Bethesda location.

Luke’s will serve Maine lobsters, chowder and other treats in a 20-seat outdoor café in the pedestrian plaza. It will also handle takeout orders and provide catering at Bethesda parties and events.

“Everyone from our commuting lunch customers, to Luke’s college friends and their families, our own Penn Quarter teammates (many of whom grew up in Bethesda) has spoken up for this neighborhood,” the announcement read.

Design of the new shop will combine “the stylishness of Bethesda Row will the down home feel of the Maine Coast,” the press release added.

Driftwood, weathered shingles and buoys from Luke’s own Maine lobster boat will be featured in the ‘cozy’ take-out shop.
