Remembering 9/11: Bethesda's Unity Wall

Residents came together to share words of hope in the aftermath of 9/11.

On Sept. 14, 2001,  a "unity wall" was erected at the Bethesda Place Plaza on Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda.

Residents, businesses, and many of those touched by 9/11 in the area flocked to the wall to share thoughts and honor those lost in the tragic attacks.

"The community responses were overwhelming and filled with prayers, sentiments of anger, hope and love," wrote Dave Dabney, executive director, in an email to Patch.

The wall was sponsored by McDonald's and the Montgomery County Police, and Ronald McDonald House Charities was on site to collect donations for the Red Cross, Dabney said.

The wall was in place until Sept. 21, 2001.
