Report: Derecho, Sandy Made 2013 the 3rd-Most Expensive Year in the County in the Past Decade for Storm Cleanup

The Gazette: Cost to Montgomery County of wind and rain storms topped only by snow.

The damaging storms of last summer—including a power-sucking "derecho" and Hurricane Sandy—made this fiscal year one of the most expensive for Montgomery County government in terms of weather response, The Gazette reported

Fiscal year 2013, which ends June 30, cost nearly $24 million in snow clean-up and response to wind and rain storms, according to the newspaper.

Only the pun-prone snow storms of two winters ago cost more, with "Snowmaggedon" costing $64 million in 2010 and "Snowpocalypse" racking up $27 million in expenses in 2011.
