Report: 'Sovereign National' Claimed Ownership of $6 Million Bethesda Mansion
Prince George's man has been charged after police say he entered a home that didn't belong to him, despite claims of historic property rights, The Washington Post reports.
A Prince George's County man who described himself as a 'Moorish American sovereign' and claimed a $6 million Bethesda mansion belonged to him has been charged with breaking and entering, fraud and attempted theft, according to a report in The Washington Post.
Using historic maps and documents, the man, Lamont Butler, unsuccessfully attempted to lay claim to the Natelli Woods Lane property at a state Department of Assessments and Taxation office in December, according to the report. The home was for sale by its owner, who lives in Chicago.
In January, police discovered Butler in the home's driveway and found evidence indicating it was occupied, including 'No Trespassing' signs in the windows, The Post reported.
