UPDATE: Life Without Parole In Suburban Hospital Murder

Update, 10:30 a.m.: Keith D. Little, of Lanham, has been sentenced to life without parole for killing his supervisor at Suburban Hospital on Jan. 1, 2011.

Just before delivering the sentence, Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Marielsa Bernard spoke about the impact the death of Roosevelt Brockington, Jr. has had on his friends, family, and church community. Family and friends spoke in court Monday, describing Brockington as a hard-working man devoted to his faith and always willing to lend a hand.

Brockington's family cried in court while video was played of Brockington singing a gospel hymn in church.

"Mr. Brockington was given no opportunity to defend himself. It was truly a terrible way to die," Bernard said.

After Little attempted to in the case minutes after being interviewed by police "made it clear to the jury and this court that you murdered Mr. Brockington," Bernard told Little.

In asking for life without parole, prosecutor George Simms called Little a "dangerous man" and asked the judge to consider . Bernard said she didn't consider the acquittal in deciding the sentence.

Wearing glasses and a suit, Little spoke in court before his sentence. Little claimed his bank statements proved he was buying coffee at a 7-Eleven in Prince George's County around 7:15 a.m. on the morning of the murder. He claimed the jury was falsely lead to believe he stayed at the hospital that morning.

Following the sentencing, State's Attorney John McCarthy called Little's statement a "controlled rant" and said Little "refused to take any responsibility for the crime."

McCarthy called the sentence "richly deserved."

Following the sentencing, members of Brockington's family said the sentence was appropriate.

The sentence brought "a little relief," but not closure, said Roosevelt Brockington, Sr., the victim's father.

"Everything that's been done won't bring my son back," Brockington said.

Keith D. Little, of Lanham, was found guilty of first-degree murder in December for the Jan. 1, 2011 murder of Roosevelt Brockington, Jr.

Brockington was found stabbed more than 70 times in the hospital's basement boiler room, where both men worked.

The sentencing is scheduled for 8:30 a.m.
