This Weekend: What To Know If You're Taking Metro

Expect more delays on the Red Line this weekend.

If you’re planning on hopping the Red Line this weekend, here’s a few things you should know.

There will be more track work on the Red Line this weekend, prompting single-tracking on portions of the line. The work won’t extend into the July 4 holiday Monday, however, but riders should expect delays on Saturday and Sunday.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday and continuing all day Saturday through closing, trains will be single-tracking between the Van Ness-UDC and Friendship Heights stations as Metro workers replace rail fasteners.

On Saturday, trains in the Montgomery County portion of the Red Line will be running about every 20 minutes. Between 9a.m. and 9p.m., trains will run between Van Ness-UDC and New York Avenue about every ten minutes.

If you’re heading down to the National Mall for the fireworks display, you should know the Smithsonian station will be closed most of the day Monday to help with crowd movement. It will re-open at the conclusion of the fireworks display.
