Public Safety Group Aims to Address Wheaton Crime Perception

WHEATON— “Wheaton is not a dangerous place,” said Fourth District Police Commander John Damskey at the first meeting of the Wheaton Public Safety Work Group on Nov. 19. “But the perception is horrible," he added. Finding Issued in Probe of Rockville City Workers' Claims of Discrimination and Harassment

Mid-December Opening Likely for Range

CHEVY CHASE, DC—Celebrity Chef Bryan Voltaggio's newest restaurant is about to open in the Chevy Chase Pavilion in Friendship Heights. Government Pays $1 Million to Keep Health Biz in Silver Spring

SILVER SPRING—A public health research firm that moved its headquarters to Silver Spring 11 years ago will receive $1 million in loans and grants from the government to stay in place for another decade, the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development announced Wednesday. Social & Scientific Solutions Inc will have to retain at least 300 full-time employees in Silver Spring to receive the money. Read more at Silver Spring Patch. 

MONTGOMERY COUNTY—A plan to recover masses of would-be wasted food and re-distribute to needy people in Montgomery County inched closer to reality Tuesday when the County Council appointed a work group. "Food recovery" was proposed by Councilmember Valerie Ervin in October, when she said that she was inspired by the work of students at the University of Maryland who have saved and donated over 30,000 meals.
