School Board Vote To Speed Up School Security Upgrades

POTOMAC—Montgomery County parents may rest a little easier after the county school board voted Tuesday to speed up spending to increase security at Montgomery County elementary schools. If the Montgomery County Council approves the request, all 132 elementary campuses could receive the upgrade by July. Read more on Potomac Patch.

GERMANTOWN—A  North Carolina man was found guilty of murdering his wife and her 11-year-old son in 2011, according to published accounts. Curtis Lopez will be sentenced in April and faces life in prison. The full story is at Germantown Patch.

Rockville Mayor Reveals Heart Scare

ROCKVILLE—Rockville Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio was especially happy to return to work during the City Council’s first meeting of the new year on Monday. Bruce Variety Closing On Sunday

Suspect Caught on Video Entering Vehicle in Chevy Chase

CHEVY CHASE—The Montgomery County Police Department posted a video on its website of a suspect entering a vehicle in Chevy Chase. The incident is one of two thefts (or attempted thefts) from vehicles in Chevy Chase "believed to have been committed by the same suspect" on or just before Dec. 31, 2012, police said. Read more on Chevy Chase Patch.

Potomac Man Arrested In Connection With Armed Carjacking

POTOMAC—Police say two suspects approached a food delivery driver and demanded his car at gunpoint. After getting into the car the suspects were unable to operate the manual transmission car and then fled on foot, police said. Read more on Potomac Patch.
