U.S. Open Metro Shuttle Passes Sold Out for Thursday, Friday and Saturday

Only a few hundred remain for Sunday.

Update, Friday, June 17: All Metro shuttle passes are now

Original post: Passes for shuttles that run between the U.S. Open at and the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro station have sold out for Thursday, Friday and Saturday, according to Transportation Management Services (TMS), the company that is contracting with the United States Golf Association (USGA) to run the shuttles.

Passes for the shuttles, which can handle about 3,500 daily spectators, didn't sell out during practice rounds on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Mike Moulton, who runs the project for TMS. But as the championship rounds got underway Thursday, the passes sold out quickly—passes for Friday and Saturday sold out Thursday morning, followed by the Thursday passes, which sold out around noon, Moulton said. There were several hundred left for Sunday.

U.S. Open Senior Director Reg Jones told Patch early this month that the Metro shuttles

“Due to our distance and the logistical challenges we would have in trying to transport people from Metro stations, it really is much more of a supplemental option for us,” Jones said.

The Metro shuttles are run via a reservation system in order to head off the potential for more demand than the shuttles were able to accommodate, Jones said.

“Today, we started moving people right at 6 a.m. and they’re still coming in fairly full buses right now,” Moulton said.

A USGA spokesman didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
