Week in Review: August 15 - 21

A wrap up of the news week in Bethesda.

The news week started off with more updates in the case of missing North Bethesda woman Robyn Gardner, who disappeared in Aruba Aug. 2.

Gaithersburg businessman Gary Giordano, Gardner’s traveling companion who has been arrested in connection with her disappearance, was ordered on Monday, according to news reports. ABC News reported that Giordano attempted to he took out on Gardner before the two traveled to Aruba. PEOPLE magazine also reported that authorities discovered explicit on Giordano’s camera.

An extensive search is set to begin in Aruba this week for Gardner’s remains or other evidence that could shed light on her disappearance.

In another high-profile case, lawyers for Brittany Norwood, the woman accused of killing her co-worker Jayna Murray in Bethesda’s Lululemon shop in March, appeared in court this week. The lawyers suggested they may seek to use an during Norwood’s October trial.

In restaurant news, Bethesda Magazine’s Table Talk blog reported that , and the Washington Business Journal reported that celebrity chef as a future location for his national chain Bobby’s Burger Palace.

In sports, local baseball player signed with the Mariners for $8.5 million, and Bethesda tennis player angled for a spot in the U.S. Open during the national tennis playoffs. Also this week, at its new location in the old Gifford’s space next to the Bethesda Row cinema, and the owners told Patch that they have commissioned an interior mural at the shop to feature local landmarks.
