Week in Review: June 20-26

Bethesda cleans up after the U.S. Open; Lululemon store re-opens to the public.

This week, life got back to normal in Bethesda after Congressional Country Club hosted the U.S. Open June 13-19. We reported this week that the golf championship to Congressional and generated between $130-150 million for the county.

The United States Golf Association began the summer camps started at schools that had doubled as drop-off points for spectators, and the installed over River and Bradley began to come down. Residents who missed the chance to grab a souvenir from the historic tournament rushed to the which was re-opened to the public Monday and Tuesday.

In school news this week, ranked all three Bethesda public high schools in its top 500 schools across the country, and public schools officials for the new B-CC middle school at a controversial site in Kensington. In the ongoing conflict between Suburban hospital and its neighbors, a Circuit Court judge of a decision that would allow the hospital to move forward with its controversial expansion.

Finally this week, the renovated Lululemon store in downtown Bethesda after the March 11 slaying of store employee Jayna Murray. As it re-opened, Murray’s family visited the store, which features a newly-installed stained glass window piece that bears the word, “Love.”

In another tribute to Murray, the community gathered Saturday morning for a along Bethesda Avenue.
